Welcome To The Club

WELCOME TO RANDORI SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB - INFORMATION PAGE

Randori Shotokan Karate Club is a part of the HDKI, an international Karate organisation.

To become a member of the club, after your first two sessions you need to:

  • Fill out a club membership form here
  • Apply for your HDKI licence here

Your HDKI licence works as your membership within the organisation as a whole and does the following:

  • Covers your insurance whilst engaging in club activities
  • Allows you to grade, attend courses/seminars, and to compete in competitions

Licence fees are set by the HDKI, not the club, and full details can be found on the link. This licence must be purchased after two sessions in order for you to train.

After your first sessions, you will need a gi (Karate Uniform) to wear during training.

Your first gi with the club is free, and will be provided once you have completed the membership form, and purchased your HDKI licence.

Replacement gis can be purchased online (there is a wide range of styles and makes, at various prices available), or you can purchase a basic gi from the club. Please ask Stuart for the current price. They normally take 1-2 weeks to arrive, though we prefer to do bulk orders rather than buying one at a time.

You will also be provided with a white belt to go with your gi.

There are several payment options available to club members:

  • Pay as you go
    • £8 per session
  • Bronze subscription
    • £30 per month
      • One lesson per week, or 4 classes per month
  • Silver subscription
    • £45 per month
      • Two lessons per week, or 8 classes per month
  • Gold subscription
    • £60 per month
      • Three lessons per week, or 12 classes per month
  • Unlimited subscription
    • £75 per month
      • Unlimited training

We offer a 10% discount to families who pay and train together at the club.

These lessons are not fixed; so for instance, if you are a bronze member and miss your session one week, you can do two the following week to make up for it (lessons must be made up in the same month, they cannot carry over). Should you choose a monthly subscription, you can of course pay for additional classes ad-hoc as wanted.

There are no cancellation fees, and no minimum term contracts, but monthly payments are non-refundable.

Subscription fees should be paid at the start of the month, into the following bank account:

Club Gradings are held every three months, and provide students with the opportunity to test for their next belt.

Students may only grade with the permission of the instructor.

Gradings cost £25 each (paid into the same account as club fees), and cover:

  • Registration of your grade with the HDKI
  • Your new belt
  • Your certificate

Gradings will usually take place between 10am and 1pm at a club venue on a Sunday, and full details will be advised in advance in class, on the club Whatsapp Group, and the Club Calendar. If you are unable to take a Grading on the day, please speak to Stuart to arrange to take the Grading. This must be done within two weeks of the Grading date, otherwise you will have to wait until the next one.

Gradings may be taken every three months (with permission) until 3rd Kyu (brown belt), at which point the minimum period is every six months.

Black Belt gradings are conducted by the HDKI at certain points throughout the year. If you are looking to take a Black Belt grading, this will be discussed with Stuart.

These will be held throughout the year, in various locations across the country.

Whilst optional, we would always encourage students to attend, as they are excellent for both improving your Karate, and meeting new people.

Events we are planning to attend will be displayed on the Club Calendar and Facebook, as well as announced in class.

Some events will have minimum requirements with regard to your belt, and will be advised in advance, along with any costs. Some events may require permission to attend, please speak to Stuart with any queries.

We hope your time with the club will be a great time.

If you have any issues, please speak to Stuart in confidence directly at the club before or after class, or via WhatsApp.

If Stuart is unavailable, you can speak to another member of the team who will pass on any concerns to Stuart.
